The Markings Guerrillas were formed under Augustin V. Marking (his real name was Marcos V. Agustin).  This group was among the 1st to accept the leadership of Col. Hugh Straughn, a retired Army officer who was trying to unify guerrillas in an alliance he called Fil-American Irregular Troops.  Straughn was captured by the Japanese on August 5, 1943 and executed soon after.

There were four issues total.

The first was mimeographed in October 1942.

The second was printed from engraved plates in July or August 1943.  Some of these notes had Col. Straughns name `X´ed out with a typewriter (after his capture), and Gen. W. W. Fertig (of Mindanao) typed in.

The third issue is the same as the second, only with the engraved plates changed to show Gen. Fertig rather than Col. Straughn.

The fourth issue was called exchange notes or liberty bonds, and were given in exchange for cash contributions in Japanese military notes.
